The winner of the 2018 Transformative Action Award will receive a prize of €10,000 to help initiate further transformative actions in the winner’s city or region.

The award is co-organised by ICLEI, the Basque Country, and the City of Aalborg (Denmark) and supported by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

It rewards ongoing or concluded Transformative Actions that use the 15 pathways outlined in the Basque Declaration to bring about the socio-cultural, socio-economic, and technological transformation of societies.

One of the pathways that cities, regions, and civil society organisations are invited to submit Transformative Actions through centres on sustainable urban mobility. The jury is looking for examples of innovative, green transport concepts that have helped create sustainable communities.

In addition to joining previous winners Lousada, (Portugal), Ghent (Belgium) and Nilüfer (Turkey) as recognised leaders of sustainable urban transformation in Europe, the winner of the 2020 award will receive €10,000 to initiate further transformative actions in their city or region.

The winner will be revealed at the 9th European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns, taking place online from 30 September–2 October 2020.

The competition is open to any local or regional authority, or civil society organisation located in an EU Member State, EEA country, EU candidate or accession country, or in the United Kingdom that has endorsed the Basque Declaration. The application deadline is 31 July 2020.
