CIVITAS ECCENTRIC was presented at two pre-events to the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, which was held in Stockholm on 19-20 February 2020.

The cities of Madrid, Munich, Stockholm and Turku presented their work on how to increase safety for unprotected road users to policy-makers and experts from around the world. Mikael Ranhagen of the City of Stockholm presented the general strategy and priorities for safe walking, cycling and transport in Stockholm, before presentations by: Juha Jokela from Turku on winter maintenance of cycling paths to enable all-year cycling; Ana Rosa Llorente and Marisol Santos from Madrid on their work to improve road safety and increase access to high-quality infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists in peripheral districts; and Matthias Mück from Munich, who highlighted the importance of exchange and learning between the CIVITAS ECCENTRIC partners when presenting Munich’s work for Vision Zero.

The presentations were followed by an introduction to Stockholm’s work on re-routing of cyclists at construction sites and work to test and develop product standards for innovative safety equipment. Measure leader Steffan Risberg and participating companies provided a hands-on demo of materials used to reduce the impacts of accidents on cyclists and pedestrians.

In another event, the City of Stockholm’s Vice Mayor for Traffic, Daniel Helldén, and CIVITAS ECCENTRIC Site Manager Paul Fenton took part in discussions on “Safe Mobility and Transport for Urban Populations”, an event co-organised by the WHO Regional Office for Europe, Swedish Healthy Cities Network and City of Stockholm.
