CIVITAS Awards 2018 Winners Revealed

Eight European towns and cities have been revealed as the winners of the CIVITAS Awards 2018, Europe’s most prestigious prizes for clean, urban transport.

The announcements were made during a lavish ceremony on the second evening of the CIVITAS Forum 2018 in  Umeå, Sweden.

The select group were recognised for ambitious, innovative and transformative sustainable urban mobility work in four categories. Three prizes were chosen by a five-person jury of mobility experts, public officials and media, and the fourth by the CIVITAS Political Advisory Committee.

The "Bold Measure" Award for a daring and innovative approach that has yet to be widely implemented and positions the city as a pioneer in its respective thematic area;

Winner - Ghent (Belgium); Runners-up - Aachen (Germany); Vinnytsia (Ukraine)

The “Take Up” Award for cities that have successfully transferred their knowledge and sustainable urban mobility measure(s) to another town/city; Winner - Reggio Emilia (Italy)

The “CIVITAS Legacy” Award for a city that has successfully translated their inspiring and committed involvement in CIVITAS into long-term implementation of innovative measures with a high impact; Winner - Szeged (Hungary); Runners-up - Izmir (Turkey)

The “Transformations” Award for significant transformation and progress towards a liveable and smarter city through an integrated set of mobility measures.

Winner - Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina); Runner-up - Tirana (Albania)

Winners act as role models to other towns and cities from across Europe, driving them in their own initiatives to make cleaner and better urban transport. They receive a trophy and certificate and, most importantly, deserved recognition and visibility for their programmes and initiatives.
