Can the world’s newest transport technology fit into one of the world’s most historic cities?

CIVITAS Initiative

Advanced Transport Systems Ltd. is offering designers around the world the chance to become involved in the design of ULTra Personal Rapid Transit, as part of the CIVITAS RENAISSANCE Project investigating sustainable transport options in historic cities.

In a cultural and historic environment such as the City of Bath, UK (the location chosen for this feasibility study), the aesthetics of the system will be paramount. In order to discover the best possible solution, ATS would like explore the most possible solutions. We are thus giving designers around the world a unique opportunity to propose their own aesthetic designs for all aspects of the system: the vehicles, guideway, and the stations -  showing how this new transport technology can best be integrated into the urban fabric of Bath. The competition entries will be judged based on their feasibility, aesthetics, and originality. This competition offers design students and professionals the opportunity to work with an exciting new sustainable transportation technology, in one of the most challenging design environments imaginable. A special forum for participants will allow them to interact with ATS engineers and designers, who will provide ongoing support throughout the duration of the competition. For students whose work is featured in the public feedback process, or selected by the judging panel, this offers the possibility for significant international exposure.
