Mobility Measure

SUMP observatory and participation

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has already developed a SUMP (2009-2012) where a detailed diagnostic of the mobility was set up and the result was a set of strategic measures for urban mobility. Some of the SUMP measures have already been implemented while other are being developed nowadays.


This measure aims to create a Mobility Office to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the current SUMP, to update mobility patterns information and to carry out different mobility studies or actions and also the SUMP observatory will coordinate all projects addressed to improve the urban quality by promoting walking, cycling and public transport.

Implementing sustainable mobility


  • Increase the use of public transport, cycling and walking, by reducing the use of private cars.
  • Foster the investment in sustainable urban mobility projects.
  • Reduction of noise, emissions and fuel consumption.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance indicators of the local SUMP.
  • Identify and analyze the mobility patterns of different targets groups (students, tourists, commuters, etc.)
  • To make studies about the public transport and other means of transport


How will this be achieved:

  • Once the Mobility Office is set up, technical studies will be carried out to improve public transport, parking management and other sustainable mobility measures in the city.


How did the measure progress?

  • There have been several meetings in order to prepare the tender documentation
  • Guaguas Municipales has worked in order to developed the tender documentation needed to carry out the subcontract activities to set up a Mobility Office Consolidated evaluation plan delivered
  • On the 8th of March, Guaguas launched the tender process to subcontract the activities to set up the mobility office and the 25th of April was the deadline to submit for application.
  • Guaguas Municipales has awarded the mobility office.
  • Currently the mobility office is being created
