Mobility Measure

Increasing the accessibility of bus stops and the attractiveness of public transport

To stimulate high quality collective passenger transport services by implementation of a Dynamic Passenger Information System and improvement of the bus stops.

Implementing sustainable mobility

To stimulate high quality collective passenger transport services by implementation of a Dynamic Passenger Information System (DPIS) and renovation of the bus stops. The implementation of a DPIS was expected to provide punctual and regular public transport services in order to increase its quality. Bus transport is the main mean of the public transport services in Szczecinek. There was an urgent need for their modernization and adjustment to the needs of today. It was also required to have a modern solution of passenger information system, - and the Dynamic Passenger Information System integrated in new bus-shelters seems to be the best solution, fulfilling the EU requirements for introduction of telematics systems for travelers services. The Dynamic Passenger Information System as well as modernization of bus stops conveyed a feeling of security and reliability to the KMSz passengers.

How did the measure progress?

The measure concerned exchanging old bus stops shelters and installment the Dynamic Passenger Information System (DPIS) displays. The implementation process of the measure was divided into four main stages. The stages were connected with analyses of basic situation and users’ needs, choosing bus shelters and their installment. For this measure the project life time has been stretched and measure has been fully completed in January 2013. The results of implementation process are:
- exchanging 10 bus stop shelters (unserviceable bus stops shelters located in the most popular and well-traveled places were exchanged for the new one),
- installation of Dynamic Passengers Information System (DPIS) displays at the most well-traveled 6 bus stops,
- demonstration of the use of the new bus stops equipped with displays of Dynamic Passenger Information System

What were the outcomes of the measure?

The objective to facilitate the access to PT for handicapped and elderly persons by adjustment of the bus stops to their needs hasn’t change comparing to the situation before Civitas.
The increase of the number of PT users in the city in order to decrease the number of private car trips was partly achieved. Less then 50% of respondents declares to change the private car for public transport. Increasing the quality of public transport by implementation of Dynamic Passenger Information System and renovation of bus stops actually didn’t has the impact on punctuality of public transport as it came that  during the implementation of this measure the public transport was already punctual. The last objective was to create more attractive public transport and it was fully achieved.
