Zagreb is one of two CIVITAS cities of the three nominees for the European Mobility Week award 2011. The aim of the award is to promote achievements in organising the European Mobility Week and also to raise awareness about the necessity of undertaking more local actions when it comes to urban sustainable mobility.

The jury has paid special attention to the involvement of relevant stakeholders in the preparation and organisation of European Mobility Week, the integration of the main themes and activities within the campaign, as well as the comprehensiveness of the events, activities and permanent measures undertaken. Bologna (Italy), Larnaka (Cyprus) and Zagreb (Croatia) are  the three finalists for the award of 2011. A summary of the main activities and achievements of each shortlisted cities can be found here. The announcement of the winner will take place at a ceremony at the Musical Instrument Museum in Brussels on 5  March 2012. European Mobility Week is an initiative of the European Commission coordinated by a consortium of two networks of European cities: EUROCITIES and ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, as well as the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), with support from the European Commission. Between 16 and 22 September 2011 a record number of cities across Europe and many cities on other continents, namely 2,268 cities, joined the tenth anniversary edition of the event dedicated to sustainable mobility. The central theme of the European Mobility Week 2011 was "Alternative mobility".
