Seven secondary schools are registered and strive to win the title of best mobility school of the year. Beside the title, the winning school receives a fabulous cash prize of 2,500 Euros. With this initiative, the City of Gent wants pupils to really think about sustainable mobility. The purpose of the project is two-fold: First of all, pupils have to develop a creative campaign on how to move in a more sustainable way. There are no limitations, everything is possible from making a film to stand-up comedy! Secondly, pupils will carry out a mobility check of their own school environment, with the help of the mobility department of course. The City of Gent has many years of experience in campaigning in primary schools, but it was clear that another approach was needed for secondary schools. The youngsters from 15 to 17 years are guided by Mobiel21, a mobility consultancy agency. Kick-off meetings are going at the moment. At the end of April, pupils will have to present their work to an independent jury. The winners will be announced at a press conference on 18 May, with the Alderman of Mobility in attendance.
