On 28 June, a new hybrid bus route was launched by Alderman for Health and Sustainable Development, Thomas Kastrup-Larsen. The route will be in operation during the summer months to transport citizens and tourists in the city between attractions and other nodes in and around the city centre. The hybrid technology has a potential to save up to 35% of the fuel consumption for the bus.

Every day, from the 28 June to the 21 August, a new environmentally friendly hybrid bus will circle around the city centre, providing a free bus service for the citizens and tourists in Aalborg. The bus is a Volvo 7700 Hybrid Bus, which aside from running on diesel is also equipped with an electric engine. The electric engine can be charged both over night and during the day, where energy from braking is used to charge the batteries. The technology makes fuel savings of up to 35% and emission savings of up to 50%.The bus will transport the passengers between attractions in and around the city centre every week day between 9 am and 7 pm and in the weekends between 10 am and 3 pm. From 10 am to 1 pm there will be guides aboard the bus to inform the passengers about the city, the bus and the CIVITAS initiative. The guides will help the passengers find their way around the city.Furthermore the bus will be driven on a 10% bio-diesel blend which will save even more fossil fuels. Read more about the bus specifications on the Volvo homepage.
