Bologna , MIMOSA

Bologna participated in Italy's first National Bike Day to promote urban cycling as a sustainable mobility option. The large turnout of people and press was largely due to a very successful collaboration between the Council and other associations in promoting the Bike Day.

In Bologna, the initiative was publicised as being part of the CIVITAS MIMOSA Project. Throughout the day, a series of cycling events targeting families and children took place in the car-free zones of Piazza Maggiore and other central areas. Gadgets and prizes were distributed to all young children and teenagers who took part in the open-air events. Newspaper coverage was particularly successful with several articles appearing in the local papers. Results: 900 people visited the Bologna Municipality stand and received information on the sustainable mobility services (with a focus on urban cycling) implemented by the local administration;350 citizens (mainly children and their parents) took part in a bike-plus-train trip from Bologna to the wild-life reserve Valli di Campotto, in Ferrara Province;100 people joined in the bicycle road-show “Kids on Bike” at Bologna Centre;200 children participated in the safe driving courses organised by the Municipal Police at Piazza Maggiore;300 cyclists joined in the Bike Pride street parade across the historical city centre;400 people took part in the Bike auction. Please contact the local dissemination manager to receive a brief report with pictures and other information. See the news published before the event for the detailed programme on the CIVITAS News section.
