And the winner is...

On May 18th, the pupils of the participating schools in the Gent school competition came to the city hall for an exciting moment: the award ceremony of the first Civitas school competition. The first price went to the Sint-Lievenscollege, the second price was for the Sint-Paulusinstituut and the third one went to the Koninklijk Lyceum Middenschool. The awards contain respectively 2,500 euros; 1,500 euros and 1,000 euros. The fourth in line Freinetatheneum De Wingerd received the encouragement award of Ghent Police Departement. The students of the Instituut van Gent and the Atheneum De Wispelberg each received a bicycle repairing set.

Some of the projects in shortThe Sint-Lievenscollege started up a competition ‘Move Gen-Y us’ through Facebook. The sixt year students motivated their fellow students to come to school in a more sustainable way during one week. The classes could gather points uploading photos on Facebook and win a barbecue set.The Sint-Pauluscollege organized a cycle week, with sponsors, tombola and various cycle activities. They also succeeded in convincing Iljo Keisse to become godfather of the project which resulted in various press articles.The youngest participants of the Koninklijk Lyceum Middenschool were rewarded with the third price. With a professional school quiz and original ‘You tube’ films all students were stimulated to think about transport in general.The awards were distributed by Alderman of Urban Planning, Mobility and Housing, Karin Temmerman and Alderman of Education, Rudy Coddens.
