Novopolotsk is one of the biggest industrial and scientific centres in the Republic of Belarus. Founded in 1958, the city is located in the north-west part of Vitebsk Province. Its total population is 108,193 inhabitants. Two modes of public transport are used in the city - buses and trams.

In total, there are 101 buses for urban transportation in the city, with 10 buses specifically for commuter traffic. The length of urban bus routes totals 270 km, with suburban routes reaching 372 km.

Trams have been in use since 1974, with the current fleet consisting of 29 vehicles. There are 10 km of tram tracks with 14 stopping points.
