This board game simulates future scenarios to generate new mobility solutions. Our mobility system is changing rapidly and people tend to get stuck in their own roles and beliefs of what should be done. Conceptualising the future is also not always easy. For this reason we created the board game “Mobility is a Serious Game”.

The initiators investigated how people, organisations and companies could find solutions for common mobility issues while having fun. They developed a mobility game that is intended to bind people, create empathy and generate new ideas.

“Mobility is a serious game” enables to explore the future in three time horizons: near future (1 to 5 years), medium (5-10 years) and long (up to 30 years). The players can put themselves into the role of either a government (local or higher), a business (up to two players), an NGO (also maximum two players), or the public voice. This public voice has an important role as he/she will comment on the actions of the others players and so reward their actions with coins. The game enables people to connect, consider myriad perspectives and let new ideas surface.

Good Example

After an extensive test phase, the game Mobility is a Serious Game was officially presented at the mobility congress that Colruyt Group and the Flanders’ sustainable mobility network jointly organised on 21 June 2017:
