Webinar: Inclusion of suburban/peripheral neighbourhoods in sustainable mobility planning

Webinar

Join a CIVITAS ECCENTRIC and CE INTERREG LOW-CARB webinar

Suburban/peripheral areas today receive less attention than urban areas when it comes to sustainable mobility solutions and policies. Suburban areas show a high demand for mobility, e.g. from daily commuters travelling into city centers on a daily basis and thus adequate measures and solutions should be implemented to fulfill that demand.

Suburban areas have remained largely unaddressed in terms of dealing with high demand for passenger and freight traffic. Moreover, due to increasingly high urban centre developments, additional pressure hast been imposed on suburban areas, which then face specific challenges of:

  • Becoming sufficiently appealing to avoid an unnecessary traffic flow towards the city centre;
  • Providing sustainable and high quality mobility options to enable and encourage car independent lifestyles; and
  • Planning the urban future according to carbon neutral mobility principles.
