Las Palmas de Gran Canaria launches new public transport card for tourists
As part of its work under CIVITAS DESTINATIONS, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has launched "Live", its new public transport cards for tourists visiting the capital of the Spanish island.
Released on 31 October, the contactless smart travel card grants visitors unlimited use of all of the 44 municipal bus lines operating within the city at a fixed price.
Available to purchase at more than different 10 locations around the city, this integrated payment solution currently covers periods of 24 or 72 hours.
The use period begins following the card's scanning on one of the city's buses. The cards have been introduced by Guaguas Municipales, the city's public transport operator.
Pedro Quevedo, Councilor for Economic Promotion, Tourism and Employment, commented that "the travel card is a practical and economical way to travel to every corner of our capital. It should prove useful for all tourists, be they national or international."
For José Eduardo Ramírez, Councilor for Mobility, the card "offers visitors the possibility of moving within the municipal bus network at an advantageous price. With this new card, tourists can already determine what part of their budget they need to set aside for making trips in the city."
Crucial to its success will be the support of the tourism industry in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Both the Hotel and Tourism Federation of Las Palmas and the Association of Hotels and Paid Accommodation will be promoting the card among their customers.
