Opportunities and Challenges for the Data Economy

Belgium

WorkshopWorkshop

The findings of an EC-funded study on the current state of play of data in smart cities and smart mobility will be presented at a full day’s workshop in Brussels on 10 May.

The study’s main remit was to explore the innovative use of data as a resource for a faster adoption and implementation of mobility solutions. Urban mobility is increasingly becoming multi-modal, on-demand and personalised travel which is enabled by real-time, accurate access to information. Data and modern technologies are playing, and will continue to play, a crucial role in that journey.

Advanced data analytics based on the integration and re-use of different data sources is already proving a key enabling factor for effective and sustainable urban mobility solutions; however, their uptake may be hindered by a range of governance, legal, technical, operational and financial constraints.

During this one day workshop, the study authors will present their insights on:

-          Mapping of most relevant smart urban mobility use cases

-          Critical issues affecting the development of smart urban mobility solutions

-          Analysis of barriers, constraints and policy gaps

-          Discussion of potential actions to address barriers and gaps.

Only a selected group of European opinion leaders are invited to participate in the discussion, and will be given access to the draft conclusions of the study. The results of the workshop will be shared with the participants and will be used as input into the development of the final study report, which will eventually be published by the EC and made publicly available.
