The second Outta Climate Festival events were organised in February and March, this time in the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni. The Outta Climate Festival is an innovative programme in Greece that was launched by CIVINET Greece-Cyprus, with the support and co-financing of the Green Fund and a number of municipalities in the network, as a way to respond to the climate crisis using a fresh approach.

Building on the recent experience of the Outta Climate Festival in Agios Dimitrios, Outta Climate Vari brought the climate crisis, road safety, youth, and culture back into focus. With a full-day programme designed for elementary school students, Outta Climate Vari included:

  • Asphalt art outside the first primary school of Vari
  • Music and dance show for kids at the Municipal Theater

"Asphalt art" is a special type of intervention in which art is created on asphalt, and which aims to attract the attention of drivers to encourage speed reduction as well as to encourage a use of roads that benefits pedestrians, cyclists, and people with reduced mobility. The asphalt art intervention was carried out by internationally-renowned artist, Soteur, with active participation of the students of the school.

The music and dance show included performances by acclaimed artists of the Jazz Solidarity Network, with the theme “Jazz around the kids – I make music with a live orchestra!” The show included an educational interactive performance that brought children in contact with jazz rhythms and allowed them to experiment with percussion instruments and musical stories. A special focus was given to making contact with the human body and to the musical sounds it can produce, the so-called body music!

The different activities that took place in Vari Voula Vouliagmeni, including the beautiful asphalt art, are captured in the post-festival summary video.
