On the road to better mobility in EU cities

A successful international conference on mobility management and mobility marketing was organised in Ljubljana as part of the European Mobility Week 2011 activities.

REC Slovenia organised it in cooperation with RDA SINERGIJA, CIVITAS ELAN project and City of Ljubljana in the context of the SEE MMS project. The conference titled “Mobility Management and Mobility Centres – European experience and Slovenian opportunities”, which took place in Ljubljana City Hall, was attended by 58 experts from 10 European countries (mainly from Slovenia). It was opened by the minister of transport of RS Patrick Vlačič, PhD., and the mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković. The main aim of the event was to present experts, the general public and decision makers in Slovenia the concept of mobility management, the activities of the European Platform of Mobility Management (EPOMM) and the SEE MMS project to improve sustainability of mobility in European urban areas with a special focus on mobility centres and related activities in the field of sustainable mobility in the city of Ljubljana and Ljubljana urban region. On the first day, the conference provided an opportunity to present the experience with mobility management from the EPOMM, achievements and findings of the programme KlimaAktiv Mobil for mobilisation of different stakeholders and contribution of South Eastern Europe toward increased capacities to manage transport and mobility in SEE cities in a sustainable way. The innovative projects in the field of sustainable transport and mobility in Ljubljana and Slovenia in general were presented and discussed together with the challenges and opportunities related to establishing a CIVINET network of cities in Slovenia and Slovenia’s affiliation to EPOMM. On the guided city tour participants were shown best practice and recent improvements to the mobility in the centre of Ljubljana. On the second day, participants got to know the role of mobility centres in transport planning and mobility management in the European cities in detail. They also learned about the main challenges to improve the sustainability of transport and mobility in the city of Ljubljana and the urban region.
