Madrid’s new multimodal mobility portal

In Madrid (Spain), the public transport authority (Consorcio Regional de Transportes de Madrid - CRTM) is working to introduce Mobility as a Service (MaaS), and the Spanish capital’s involvement in CIVITAS ECCENTRIC is helping them to achieve this aim.

As part of their work in the project, CRTM has developed a multimodal mobility portal. This brings together real-time information on public transport and shared mobility options from over 30 public and private operators on a single, integrated platform.

Groups interested in providing travel information and mobility services to citizens across the region, such as app developers and public authorities, have also been granted access to the information stored within the platform.

The platform was launched last month and it is hoped that local developers will release their first apps by the end of the year. The new service complements the ‘Mi Transporte’ app that has been provided by CRTM since 2015.

Indeed, the portal represents a significant breakthrough in the way that information is provided to users in and around the Madrid region. By simplifying journey planning, the travel experience of both residents and visitors should improve.

In the longer term, the platform is intended to serve as the basis for the Spanish capital’s MaaS offer. The introduction of MaaS forms one of the key pillars to reduce the use of cars in the Spanish capital and increase the modal share of public transport.
