Munich , ECCENTRIC

The CIVITAS ECCENTRIC project will organise a ‘Living Labs’ study visit on 1 March 2018 in Munich (Germany) to demonstrate the potential and replicability of integrated and inclusive urban planning approaches.

ECCENTRIC's partner cities and the project's international Observer Cities Group will learn about sustainable mobility in suburban districts and innovative urban freight logistics, two important areas that have previously received less attention in urban mobility policies.

Other themes to be explored will include inclusive urban planning, new parking policies and mobility management, and enabling safe walking and cycling. The five ECCENTRIC partner cities: Madrid (Spain), Ruse (Bulgaria), Munich (Germany), Stockholm (Sweden), and Turku (Finland), will be joined by 16 observer cities.

The Observer Group's European contingent includes Budapest (Hungary); Uppsala (Sweden); Zagreb (Croatia), and Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque Country). From beyond Europe, the Municipal Planning Institute from Aguascalientes (Mexico); Shaoxing City and Tongji University (College of Architecture and Urban Planning) (in China), and the National University of Colombia will attend.

The Observer Cities Group is an active network of cities from across the world that is engaging closely with the 51 measures being implemented in the five partner cities' 'Living Labs'.

Those that prove the most transferable will be tested within the Observer Cities group and in further locations. To facilitate this, the group is provided with support to identify the appropriate measures and develop an implementation plan.

Study visits to the five Partner Cities like the one in Munich, training webinars, and workshops form part of the group’s capacity building activities.

Cities interested in joining the Observer Cities Group can send enquiries and applications to the project coordination team at the ICLEI European Secretariat: eccentric.observers@iclei.org.
