Cities across the EU with a population of over 50,000 inhabitants, and smaller towns with a combined population of 50,000 inhabitants, are eligible to apply.  This prestigious award, organised by the European Commission in partnership with the European Disability Forum, celebrates cities that have made significant advancements in becoming more accessible for people with disabilities. The award recognises cities that have excelled in making their environments more accessible and inclusive. Winners will be announced during the European Day of Persons with Disabilities conference on 28-29 November 2024, with monetary prizes awarded as follows:

  • 1st place: EUR 150,000
  • 2nd place: EUR 120,000
  • 3rd place: EUR 80,000

Interested cities must submit their applications online by 10 September 2024. Detailed guidelines and participation rules are available on the Access City Award website in all official EU languages.

The combined efforts of the CIVITAS Replication and Deployment Programme and the EU Access City Award aim to create a more inclusive and accessible urban environment across Europe, fostering innovation and collaboration in addressing the challenges of urban mobility and accessibility for all residents.
