Clean fuels and vehicles

Cleaner fuels and vehicles decrease local air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, both of which help improve the quality of life for citizens. CIVITAS cities seek to explore innovations in these fields and share best practise. Many cities try to stimulate the spread of clean and energy-efficient public and private vehicles for passenger and freight transport.

Biodiesel or biogas vehicles are seen as an element on the path towards energy independence from fossil fuels and relief from unstable oil prices. CIVITAS cities test for example the use of biodiesel, biogas, compressed natural gas (CNG) and hybrid vehicles. They develop expertise in procurement and tendering and also explore opportunities to source biofuels locally.
