Mobility Measure

Communication for the introduction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

The construction of a BRT might cause some inconvenience to neighbours and visitors. For this reason, the main focus of this measure is to carry out a communication campaign in order to raise awareness of the importance and scope of the project, given that the BRT will bring economical and environmental benefits as well as becoming an eco-friendly city where pedestrians are the main players. With this objective, a 3D film simulating a real BRT trip (of about 4 minutes) will be recorded. In addition, dedicated information sessions for target users as elder people, journalists, students or neighbourhood associations will be carried out (audiovisual and other material are produced for these sessions). In December 2017 the tender process for a 3D BRT film production was awarded to Oportunidades Canarias. This film is expected to be shown to the general audience by the EMW 2018.

Implementing sustainable mobility

Objectives:

  • Improvement of the perception about the quality of public transport services.
  • Reduction of noise, emissions and fuel consumption related to mode transfer.
  • Increase the total amount of citizens and tourists that use sustainable modes of transport.
  • Enhancement of social cohesion through transport connectivity.
  • Raise awareness of the benefits and impact of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
  • Achieve an effective introduction and public acceptance of a new transport system that must become fully integrated in the mobility patterns of the city.

How will this be achieved:

  • This measure will carry out a communication campaign in order to raise awareness of the importance and scope of the project, given that the BRT will bring economical and environmental benefits as well as becoming an eco-friendly city where pedestrians are the main players.
  • A 3D film simulating a real BRT trip (of about 8 minutes) will be recorded.
  • The film will be presented on social media and other communication platforms, the film will be shot too in other available versions like full or ultra high definition (Full HD o 4K).
  • Dedicated information sessions for target users as elder people, journalists, students or neighbourhood associations will be carried out.

 

How did the measure progress?

  • Present the commercial brand of the new high capacity urban public transport system of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (hereinafter MetroGuagua) in a public event in a pedestrian area on 24th of november 2016.
  • Others meeting have been hold with Gran Canaria Film Commission in order to seek for technical support to prepare tender documentation for the 3D MetroGuagua film, due to this is a very specific work.
  • It has been signed a contract with an expert specialized in audiovisual production in 3D format to support Guaguas Municipales to draft the specific tender documentation for the shooting of a 3D film for the MetroGuagua (BRT) promotion.
  • MetroGuagua (BRT) works started on 26th of June, so dedicated sessions for target users and meetings with stakeholders have been carried out to explain local mobility plans and the benefits of the MetroGuagua in the future, have been the next:
  • 2 Meetings with media to explain the Project.
  • Dedicated sessions and meetings with stakeholders and schools where the first section of MetroGuagua works have started in 2 schools (Salesianos and Teresianas) and 2 Stakeholders (Mercado Central and Asociación de Empresarios Zona Comercial Mesa y López)
  • The tender documentation for the shooting of a 3D film for MetroGuagua (BRT) promotion has already been published and awarded to OPORTUNIDADES. It is expected that the film will be shown to the general audience by the European Mobility Week of september 2018.

What were the outcomes of the measure?

  • A 3D BRT movie production (8 minutes).
  • HD and 4k versions to show it in standard media.
  • Specific events:
  • Monthly events for students. (excluding summer months)
  • Yearly events for neighbourhood associations affected by BRT construction works of each different section.
  • 3 monthly events for Journalist. (excluding summer months)
  • 2 monthly events for professional groups and stakeholders. (excluding summer months)
