Do you want to learn more about sustainable urban mobility planning in Southeast Europe? Southeast Europe Competence Centre on Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning has been recently launched to support cities in developing SUMPs and to gather together the existing knowledge on SUMPs from the region.

Planning sustainable urban mobility is rather new approach in the Southeast Europe region. It has been only recently addressed in the national transport legislation in different states in the region. Southeast European cities have gained knowledge on SUMPs mainly through cooperation within European projects and via city networks. There was an urgent need to establish a one stop shop platform for knowledge and expertise on SUMPs in the region. Southeast European CC on SUMP  responds to this need and facilitates exchange of practical experiences between cities in the region. The Competence Centre is hosted by the City of Koprivnica, one of the first cities in the region developing a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) and has been established in the framework  of CIVITAS DYN@MO project.

By sharing own experiences of the SUMP process and how the city has succeeded in overcoming obstacles experienced also by other municipal authorities in the region, Koprivnica hopes to raise awareness of this important issue and encourage other cities to launch an SUMP process, which will improve their planning practices in the area of urban mobility.

The SEE Competence Centre online platform is the first of its kind on SUMPs in Croatian language. The Competence Centre also offers information in other languages of the region e.g. Slovenian. The Competence Centre gathers together existing guidelines and material on SUMP development in Croatian, presents examples of national transport legislation and collects good practice examples from various countries in the region as well as practical examples of specific features of sustainable mobility plan, from political support and public participation to monitoring and evaluation.

Users of the platform will be able to share their experiences, seek advice or connect with other cities, which have developed or are in the process of developing their SUMPs.

SEE Competence centre has been developed in cooperation with CIVITAS DYN@MO partners University of Gdansk, Lund University, City of Gdynia, Aachen University of Applied Sciences and Union of Baltic cities Commission on Environment and collaborates  with the Baltic Sea Region Competence Centre on SUMP. The Competence Centre on SUMP cooperates closely with CIVINET Slovenia-Croatia in promoting the concept of SUMPs in the region.
