CIVITAS MIMOSA in participation with the Academic Cultural Centre, the police and the Creation Factory officially launched the Tri-City Bicycle Festival 2011 with ‘You Can Get There On 2 Wheels’- ‘ROWEREM DO CELU’ event. Designed to promote safety for cyclists, the festival provided a platform to physically show how cycling can be integrated on a daily basis whether it be for recreation, family integration but also just to get around the city.

The event kicked off with Bike Through The City setting off from the historic heart of Gdansk and ending up by the pier in Gdansk-Brzezno, where the festival carried on for the rest of the day. At Bike Safely, locals took part in a family picnic where lots of great ‘bike’ cookies, free bicycle clinics and first aid presentations provided great for food for thought. Participants were then treated to an unusual bicycle show with multiple parallel tandems and bikes with front trailers to admire. Younger participants took pleasure in face painting and enjoyed testing their cycling skills in the bike city. Bike to Music presented Bike ‘n’ Roll with the Tri-City based bands, such as 3FM, REGULACJA, AIODINE, STEVEN STILLER and TKM performing live. After the sunset, the festival closed with Bike to the Movies, an open-air cinema. The festival proved an undisputed success with over 800 people taking part. CIVITAS MIMOSA Gdansk is convinced that the event’s huge popularity is a sign of the fundamental change in attitudes towards more sustainable modes of transport in Gdansk. A survey was carried out during the event to find out if this is in fact true and better inform future initiatives. CIVITAS MIMOSA Gdansk is well aware that the key to communication is to constantly keep one step ahead, listen to the target audience and reinvent the wheel each year.
