Minutes and presentations of the thematic workshop on "Transport a la Demanda" held in Barcelona last 1st July now available.

After several years from their first implementations in early 2000, including the Drinbus of Genova tested in CIVITAS CARAVEL, demand-responsive transport services (DRTS)  demonstrated be a reliable and effective alternative to traditional fixed-route, timetable-based bus lines. More than simply undercutting operative costs,"on demand" services are well appreciated by the users and can be a solution for widening the public transport network and accessibility to/from low-demand, sub-urban and rural areas.

There are currently more than 214 flexible services in operation in Catalonia. Also the Spanish region of Castilla y Leon has implemented a large scheme with 108 communities served by DRTS. Solutions have to be tailored to every specific case and territory but ITS solutions and proven experiences are widely available. The CIVITAS thematic group Collective Passenger transport contributed to a thematic workshop organised last 1st July 2014 by the Catalan Government and the regional association of catalan cities dealing with urban mobility AMTU. Three CIVITAS speakers from Genova, Parma and Bologna presented their experiences together with the representatives of Castellar del Vallès, Alella and the company GMV. The event was attended by 86 participants.

Presentations and results of the workshop are now available on the event page.
