On 6 March, a development conference in the City Hall, entitled “The Future of Mobility in Slovene Municipalities” was organised.

On 6 March, partners of recently established Slovenian Platform of Sustainable Mobility, in cooperation with CIVITAS ELAN team in Ljubljana, organized a development conference in the City Hall, entitled “The Future of Mobility in Slovene Municipalities”. They highlighted that mobility and transport are of key importance for every community. Efficient movement of people and goods as well as the quality of life of the entire community depends on them. Experience from successful municipalities shows that those local communities which change their outdated transport planning practices and instead embrace a sustainable approach to mobility planning will be more successful in dealing with the challenges of the future. Interesting topics about sustainable mobility lured more than 80 participants. The experts, among them Karl Reiter from FGM AMOR, Austria, and “mobility” professor of transport policy and mobility management Tom Rye at Edinburgh Napier University, accompanied by Slovene speakers Aljaž Plevnik from Urban Planning Institute of Slovenia, also partners of CIVITAS ELAN, and the project coordinator Zdenka Šimonovič answered questions, such as “Why to plan traffic in sustainable way?”, “What are key benefits for cities and municipalities, if they do so?”, “What’s the difference between sustainable and traditional mobility planning?” and “How to develop a comprehensive transport policy from successful measures – examples from Ljubljana?”. The conference, organized by Ministry of Infrastructure and Spatial Planning, City of Ljubljana, Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, partners of the CIVITAS ELAN and Eltisplus projects, aimed to exchange knowledge on better transport planning practice in Slovenian municipalities.
