Right of way for the environmentBremen and DHL start with a clean fleet for inner city goods distributionOn 24th November DHL started its service with seven CNG delivery trucks in Bremen – one of five pilot cities in Germany. Christine Kramer, Deputy Minister for Construction, Environment and Transport and Michael Heimbokel, Head of DHL office in Bremen launched this innovative and clean service which will help to reduce the pollution in the inner city area and thus contribute to the clean air policy of the European Commission.Bremen will implement a pilot project which will allow EEVs to enter the inner city area in wider time window and establish a so called loading point which will only be accessible for EEVs. “This advantage in a highly competitive market will stimulate other transport companies to follow the good example of DHL”, says Christine Kramer during the press conference in Bremen. And the local energy provider swb, partner in the Vivaldi project is going to improve the infrastructure with at least two new fuelling stations in 2006. “This will satisfy the increasing demand especially for fleet managers who are thinking about new CNG fleets”, says Iris Klauck from swb Vertrieb Bremen GmbH.
