The city could provide no data about the modal split of local traffic. However, the majority of citizens use public transport, mostly buses. For instance, during 2009, the company’s buses traveled 3,812,000 km and transported more than 10 million passengers.
No information could be retrieved concerning the city’s strategy towards achieving sustainable urban mobility. However, regarding mobility services, Alcala’s public transport company was founded in 1974, and today has a fleet of 58 buses. All of its buses are adapted to serve people with limited mobility and include wheelchair ramps, safety belts, wide aisles and special protection. Buses use Euro 3, Euro 4 and Euro 5 fuels.
