CIVITAS Forum 2017

27/09/2017 to 29/09/2017

There are various ways to keep up to date with the CIVITAS Forum 2017! You will be able to follow the Forum on Twitter using the hashtag #CIVITAS2017, whilst updates will be posted on Facebook and LinkedIn. Check back after each day for an article rounding up the previous day's highlights. Materials from certain sessions and workshops will also be made available following the event.

This year’s CIVITAS FORUM Conference takes place on 27-29 September 2017 in Torres Vedras, Portugal. The annual event brings together the CIVITAS community from across Europe: hundreds of mobility experts, actors, and stakeholders, all of whom are devoted to the development of sustainable urban mobility in their cities. The CIVITAS Forum Conference's 15th edition continues to offer state-of-the-art presentations, interactive workshops and sessions, and intriguing site visits, whilst introducing new and exciting elements to the programme.

As Torres Vedras is the smallest municipality to host a CIVITAS Forum Conference and one of Portugal’s prime examples of sustainable urban development, "small communities, big ideas" is an appropriate theme. However, this refers not only to the conference objective of encouraging the transfer of ideas between cities of various sizes. Using the CIVITAS transferability approach as a basis, the Forum will also demonstrate how ideas developed by any kind of small community – such as a CIVITAS project, an expert group, or small town – can help to address urban mobility problems.

Torres Vedras was chosen to host the CIVITAS Forum 2017 because of its active involvement in CIVINET Portugal-Spain and the CIVITAS Political Advisory Committee, demonstrating a strong political commitment to sustainable mobility issues and to the CIVITAS Network.

An innovative, new element of the programme is the CIVITAS Deployment Day. This will connect developers of new tools, methods, and approaches with potential users. These will be presented in various interactive formats, including individualised training workshops and  demonstration and Q&A sessions. The new CIVITAS Tool Inventory will be launched during the Forum's opening plenary session. Click here to see the list of exhibitors at the Deployment Day.

Many classic elements remain from previous Forums, such as plenary sessions, thematic sessions and workshops, and the CIVITAS Awards. The event starts with an opening plenary session: attendees will be addressed by numerous distinguished speakers. This is followed by panel discussions and interactive sessions. The first day finishes with a cocktail reception. The second day is all about Deployment Day, after which a gala dinner and the CIVITAS Awards are being held in a stunning venue on the Atlantic coast.

After a morning of sessions, the main Forum concludes with a plenary, including the announcement of the next Forum host. Following this, Torres Vedras is offering a number of interesting site visits. Click here for the full programme.

The Forum Conference is taking place in the ‘Pastoral Centre’, located next to a picturesque park. All side events and catering are within walking distance, whilst sessions and events in locations further away will be accessible by dedicated shuttle buses organised by Torres Vedras. Similar shuttles will be offered to participants to travel between their accommodation and the conference venue.
